February 10, 2021 (Barcelona, ESP / Toronto, CAN) –  OSL-DeAPlaneta, the esports brand of Grupo Planeta, and Overactive Media, the global esports and entertainment company, have signed a strategic partnership agreement. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aims to have both companies join forces to better connect fans to the world of esports. The two companies will begin working on a series of initiatives, including: the international distribution of audiovisual content, the commercialization of media rights deriving from competitions, the co-production and distribution of original content and the expansion of a licence and merchandising business.

“We are thrilled to be starting a relationship with such a premium brand like DeAPlaneta, and we are ready to explore new and exciting ways to bring original content to our current and future fans,” said Jorge Schnura, Co-Founder and President, MAD Loins.

Both companies are key players in the global esports ecosystem and have proven experience of attracting non-endemic audiences and partners to help grow the industry. Their teams have already started work on a variety of projects that will help to promote gaming among a wider audience. Esports has shown major growth in recent years in terms of players as well as publishers, competition organizers and distribution platforms.

Describing the agreement, Ignacio Segura, the General Manager of DeAPlaneta commented: “we have found in OverActive Media a strong international partner that views the world of gaming as we view it ourselves: a source of entertainment content that needs to shift from pure competition on platforms like Twitch and YouTube to entertainment for the wider public on the same platforms and on free-to-air television.”

OverActive Media is one of the founding companies of the CS:GO international competition Flashpoint, where teams, including MAD Lions and other top-notch clubs like Gen.G, Cloud9, Dignitas and Envy. Flashpoint (Flashpoint | Rush. Frag. Repeat.) combined to create a solid, lasting league in fragmented CS:Go scene.

For its part, OSL-DeAPlaneta, as the exclusive organizer of the RFEF’s eFootball competitions is currently immersed in the eCopa RFEF, a FIFA benchmark competition in Spain and a tournament held ahead of the national qualifiers to pick the Spanish national team to play in the FIFA eNations Cup 2021. The RFEF eCopa, which is the Spanish FIFA competition with the highest number of players, is currently in the first stage.
