TWO CHAMPIONS CROWNED

OverActive Media franchises in the League of Legends European Championships and the Call of Duty League win big

April 12, 2021 (TORONTO, CAN // MADRID, ESP) – Leading global esports organization, OverActive Media (OverActive) celebrated two incredible wins over the weekend on both sides of the Atlantic. MAD Lions and Toronto Ultra start this week as champions in their respective leagues and continents.

MAD Lions, who compete in the League of Legends European Championship (LEC) are being called the new kings of Europe, after five exciting games and a reverse sweep versus Rogue to become the Spring 2021 split champions. After six years of Fnatic and G2 domination, a new name and logo will be placed on the wall of champions in the LEC studios in Berlin: our MAD Lions. Elyoya has also been named Rookie of the split in Europe, and Armut was named MVP of the Final.

Toronto Ultra, Canada's only professional Call of Duty League (CDL) franchise made a roster move at the beginning of Call of Duty League Stage ll, bringing in Insight, who debuted by setting the CDL S&D kill record with 18. After a wild group stage, Toronto Ultra came out starting in the winners bracket for the Major II Tournament courtesy of a three-way tie. The route to the Final saw Toronto Ultra eliminate the LA Thieves, Minnesota ROKKR, Dallas Empire and then a re-match with Atlanta FAZE, which resulted in a 5-3 win. Composure, resiliency and teamwork got the team to the end of the bracket and completed their championship run. In addition to the team victory, individual recognition was given to Bance by the League, naming him the Player of the Stage.

“Winning two major championships on two continents on the same day is an overwhelming experience. What a great day for our teams, our staff and our organization," said Adam Adamou, Chief Strategy Officer at OverActive. "We decided early on that we would build teams with young players, strong coaching, and an outstanding operations and support staff. Our success is a validation of the process that we established and the people that we assembled to run it."

According to Esports Charts, yesterday’s LEC final attracted a peak audience of 831,000 – the highest ever for a Spring Split game. MAD Lions vs Rogue now slots in as the fourth most-watched LEC game ever.

The MAD Lions and Toronto Ultra championship wins are a result of a long collection of efforts, including the support of marketing partnerships in Europe and in North America. MAD Lions partners include: SEAT, EPOS, Razer and Kappa; while the Toronto Ultra partners consist of Bell, EPOS, Jack Link's, SCUF, and Universal Music Canada.

"This milestone achievement is for our fans and partners – you have our unwavering appreciation. These victories belong to you," added Adamou.”
